What’s next from the U.N. ? China holding a conference on how to treat prisoners? Iran holding a conference on gay rights?

That’s fucked up. Sort of like Bush leading a Mensa meeting or an economic forum.
So what’s your opinion on the Detroit bailout? Yay or nay?
November 14, 2008 at 3:59 am
Nay. This is all about protecting labor. I understand the sentiment and I feel bad for everyone. But bloating our debt by propping up a sinking ship makes no sense. Our government is out of fucking control. They need to face the inevitable which appears to be a long sustained recession/depression. Have faith in the capitalist system and get out the way. And repeal Sarbanes-Oxley on they way out because it is a costly barrier to new enterprises. We will innovate and find our way.

I have been reading about this kind of stuff for years. I have been a devoted reader of Nouriel Roubini for many years. He is not the author here but he has been predicting a serious crisis for a few years now and seems to have described the reasons why very well. I don’t know enough about economics to be a doomsayer. But there is this lingering doubt in the back of my mind. I’m not sure if it just a natural fear that drives us all or a subconcious thought that has run the #s and knows that it is inevitable. But this is an interesting article. Hell I don’t know. The economy could turn around next year.

I think that guy may have lost his mind.
To put things broadly and vaguely: I think we are seeing the effects of transitioning to a global information technology economy. I think that things happened very quickly, and we have a new economic model but our practices haven’t caught up yet. I guess things changed faster than a generation aged. From economics, to foreign policy, to energy, to domestic social policy, environmental concerns, the rise of China…it is simply a world in another cranky stage of evolution. This too shall pass and it will be interesting to see where we end up in five years!! Stay positive!

Re: The Detroit article–Unions are a good example of old economic practices that I mentioned in the previous post which we havent shed.
Hey, ever heard of Peter Schiff? Watch this clip. He predicted this mess two years ago, in detail, while everyone thought he was nuts. Notice the dates on the screen.
